MOSCOW, April 17 – RIA Novosti. A large number of analyzes and medical research is not yet a sign of a deep and comprehensive study of the diagnosis. Many of them are not very informative or redundant, for example, tests for some biochemical blood parameters, hormonal and immunological blood tests, tumor markers, etc., told the Prime Agency of the head of the medical development department of BestDoctor Yulia Tkachenko.
“Tumor markers are never assigned to healthy people as a screening, this is a very outdated approach. Even the well-known PSA (a tumor marker that determines the risk of prostate cancer) is no longer used for screening in developed countries,” the expert says.
Another popular way to spend money nowhere is to have an unnecessary blood test for an “immunity test”. According to Tkachenko, it makes sense to test for vitamin D, vitamin B12, folic acid, iron, but not for selenium, zinc, cobalt. She recommends, if there is a suspicion that the clinic is cheating for money, contact another doctor in another clinic and compare the two medical opinions.
In such cases, it is better to change the clinic, since usually the excessive prescription of tests is associated with the system of motivation of doctors built in this way. “Doctors are encouraged not for solving a patient's problem, but for prescribing a large number of tests and instrumental studies, which takes the patient's time and reduces the effectiveness of treatment,” Tkachenko sums up.
