WASHINGTON, April 10 – RIA Novosti. The passage of a US destroyer near India complies with international law, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
Earlier, the Indian Foreign Ministry expressed concern that the destroyer passed through the exclusive coastal economic zone of India.
“I can tell you that the US Navy destroyer John Paul Jones acted in accordance with the right to freedom of navigation near the Republic of Maldives, making an innocent passage through the territorial waters in its exclusive economic zone without first requesting permission.” stated Kirby.
“This is consistent with international law. We continue to reserve the right and responsibility to fly, sail and operate in accordance with international law,” McConnell said.
