MOSCOW, April 6 – RIA Novosti. The Ukrainian side continues to bring military equipment to Donbass every day, it may launch an offensive in the third decade of April, believes Daniil Bezsonov, First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Information of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
“Of course, every day (the delivery of equipment continues – ed.). The enemy is deploying forces and means. Of course, our enemy is preparing for offensive actions, this is obvious,” Bezsonov said on the Russia 24 TV channel.
According to him, the DPR has been in a state of war for seven years and is ready to defend itself in the event of an offensive. As noted by Bezsonov, the DPR intelligence is working well, so Donetsk is ready for anything.
“Predict a specific date when it will be … You need to understand that the enemy is already ready. They have taken all the necessary preparatory measures to start hostilities. When will the order to attack be issued? Most likely, it will depend on the weather conditions, because now spring thaw, the earth is wet, for effective offensive actions the army must be able to quickly maneuver, move quickly. Therefore, the earth must dry out. Most likely, according to the forecasts of our specialists and the military, it will probably be on the 20th of April, “Bezsonov said.
Speaking about whether Donetsk is ready to defend itself if Ukraine uses drones, Bezsonov also answered positively.
“Of course, we are preparing. Of course, we have something to answer. We are ready for the enemy to use all available weapons,” he added.
At the end of March, the Ukrainian security forces announced that four soldiers were killed and two more were wounded during shelling near the village of Shumy in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he would soon discuss the situation with the leaders of the Normandy Four (in addition to Ukraine – Germany, Russia and France). Kiev began to declare about the aggravation of the situation in Donbass.
In turn, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics accused Kiev of exacerbation – according to their statements, there are provocations from the security forces, and the militias are opening fire back. Also, both the DPR and the LPR announced the discovery of dozens of units of Ukrainian military equipment in settlements. In addition, Lugansk accused Kiev of indiscriminate mining of territories.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg the aggravation of the security situation in Donbass and said that the North Atlantic Alliance is the only way to end the conflict in Donbass. As the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said, the Kremlin does not yet see the intention of the Ukrainian side to calm down, move away from the militant theme and take control of its units in the Donbass.
In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, which declared independence after the coup d'etat in Ukraine in February 2014. According to the latest UN data, about 13 thousand people became victims of the conflict.
The issue of resolving the situation in Donbass is being discussed, including during the meetings in Minsk of the contact group, which since September 2014 has already adopted three documents regulating steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, after the armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict, shootings continue.
