MOSCOW, April 4 – RIA Novosti. National Interest columnist Mark Episkopos named five types of weapons in the Russian army that will ensure Moscow's victory if war breaks out with Ukraine.
According to the author of the article, the escalation of the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine could lead to a war with Russia. He noted that the Russian army has a noticeable superiority in the air and in terms of missile defense, which will create great difficulties for the Armed Forces.
Episkopos believes that Kiev will not be able to overcome the Russian missile defense system due to the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine lacks secrecy. The expert recalled the S-400 Triumph air defense system based in Crimea, which could pose a threat to military facilities in the east and central part of Ukraine. This Russian system is capable of striking aircraft, drones and missiles within a radius of 400 kilometers.
The next item on the list is Su-35S fighters, equipped with air-to-ground missiles and guided bombs. The expert noted that the Ukrainian aviation will not be able to resist Russia due to its own backwardness and dilapidation, as well as the numerical superiority of the Russian aerospace forces.
In the event of hostilities on land, Russia will use the BMP-3M, Episkopos is sure. He believes that battles will take place in urban environments, and light and maneuverable infantry fighting vehicles will have significant advantages over tanks.
At the same time, tanks, primarily the T-90M, will also contribute to a hypothetical war. The expert noted that Russia leads the world in terms of the number of tanks in service. At the same time, he urged not to discount the Ukrainian T-84 “Oplot”, but still stressed that they are unlikely to be enough for an effective fight.
The fifth on the list was Russian self-propelled howitzers 2S19 “Msta-S”, equipped with advanced aiming technology and capable of firing up to eight rounds per minute.
Since February, the situation in eastern Ukraine has begun to deteriorate. Provocations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and shelling of settlements in the DPR and LPR have become more frequent. The day before, a child died and a woman was injured as a result of a strike by a Ukrainian drone in Donbass. After that, the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin called for Kiev to be excluded from the Council of Europe. The parliamentarian was amazed that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who gave the order for the shelling, did not offer condolences to the relatives of the child who died due to the UAV raid.
Recently, the representative of Ukraine in the trilateral contact group on Donbass, Oleksiy Arestovich, said that NATO exercises Defender Europe 2021 are necessary to practice the war with Russia. According to him, the alliance has already begun pulling forces and their transfer, as well as organizing logistics issues, the main focus is the Balkans and Crimea. State Duma Deputy Mikhail Sheremet warned in response that the consequences of the war with Russia would be dire for the aggressor. Senator Sergei Tsekov called Ukraine a free military training ground for NATO.
Later this week, Ukraine's Defense Ministry said Washington would not abandon Kiev “in the event of an escalation of Russian aggression.” The American side confirmed this information, and US President Joe Biden assured his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that the States will continue to support Ukraine “in the face of Russian aggression in Donbass and Crimea.”
In response to this, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that talk about a potential conflict between Russia and Ukraine is another fiction of Kiev. Moscow is not interested in confrontation with the Ukrainian side, especially in the military one, stressed the deputy head of the department Andrei Rudenko.
