MOSCOW, 17 Mar – RIA Novosti. Pain in the area of the right shoulder blade may indicate liver cancer. Express writes about this with reference to the data of British doctors.
This symptom is due to the fact that metastases or the tumor itself irritate the nerves, signaling that the pain comes from the scapula. However, in reality, the unpleasant sensation is concentrated in the liver. The pain, experts say, can appear in the right shoulder or, in some cases, all over the back.
Other signs of liver cancer include yellow skin, loss of appetite, dark or very pale urine, abdominal swelling, nausea or vomiting.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (also known as liver cancer) is the most common primary cancer of the liver. It is the result of malignancy (malignant transformation) of hepatocytes.
The main causes of hepatocellular carcinoma are chronic viral hepatitis B and hepatitis C, cirrhosis of the liver, and regular consumption of hepatocarcinogens. Less common causes are hemochromatosis, schistosomiasis and some other parasitic liver diseases, as well as exposure to carcinogenic substances: polychlorinated biphenyls, chlorine-containing pesticides, chlorinated hydrocarbons, nitrosamines.
Among the risk factors for developing liver cancer, doctors also name overweight, alcohol abuse, genetic predisposition and diabetes.
