MOSCOW, March 16 – RIA Novosti. Roskomnadzor is considering a complete blocking of Twitter on the territory of Russia if the social network does not respond to the department's claims within a month, the deputy head of Roskomnadzor Vadim Subbotin told RIA Novosti.
Earlier on Tuesday, Subbotin said that Roskomnadzor took a break for now and would monitor Twitter's reaction to the claims made by the department for a month. He explained that further decisions will be made depending on the actions of the administration of the social network, noting that so far the department has not been able to enter into a direct dialogue with the management of Twitter.
To the clarifying question of RIA Novosti, whether the department is considering the option of completely blocking Twitter in the Russian Federation if the administration of the social network does not respond to the claims of Roskomnadzor, Subbotin answered in the affirmative.
Since March 10, Roskomnadzor has slowed down the speed of Twitter in the Russian Federation on 100% of mobile devices and 50% of stationary devices and threatened to block it if the Internet service does not begin to comply with the requirements of Russian laws. The department sent over 28 thousand initial and repeated requests to remove illegal links and publications, which were never fulfilled.
