MOSCOW, March 16 – RIA Novosti. The deputy head of Roskomnadzor, Vadim Subbotin, admitted the possibility of slowing down traffic and blocking other Internet services by analogy with Twitter .
“We do not rule out that if other sites also violate Russian legislation and do not comply with the requirements of Roskomnadzor, we will also go along the technical line,” Subbotin told reporters.
This includes Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms.
Since March 10, Roskomnadzor has slowed down the speed of Twitter on all mobile and half of stationary devices and threatened the resource with blocking. As Subbotin explained, traffic slowdown concerns the transfer of photos and videos and does not apply to text information. The decision is due to the fact that the service does not remove content that inclines minors to commit suicide, containing child pornography, as well as information about the use of drugs.
Twitter then said that it was concerned about “the growing attempts to block and slow down public dialogue on the network” and “committed to protecting the open Internet around the world.” At the same time, as noted in Roskomnadzor, it was not possible to establish a direct dialogue with the company's management.
Today Subbotin said that in a month the regulator is ready to block Twitter in Russia if it does not respond to the department's claims regarding the removal of prohibited content.
