MOSCOW, March 14 – RIA Novosti. Doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 1” that a chronic cough may indicate gastroesophageal reflux.
“The number one reason for chronic cough is the throwing of acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. <…> And there are cough receptors in the esophagus. They get irritated – a person starts coughing,” he explained.
According to Myasnikov, gastroesophageal reflux, in addition to coughing at night, can also cause sore throat and hoarseness.
At the same time, the doctor warned that heartburn in such a situation may not be.
