SIMFEROPOL, March 14 – RIA Novosti. Investigators began checking on the fact of a road accident in Crimea with the participation of a police officer, as a result of which a person died, three more were injured, the press service of the regional GSUK RF reports.
“A procedural check is being carried out on the fact of a traffic accident on the Krasnoperekopsk-Simferopol highway in the Pervomaisky district, as a result of which one person died, three more received injuries of varying severity,” the message says.
Investigators found that a police officer driving a Mazda car drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided tangentially with a Peugeot car, and then, after a head-on collision with a Slavuta car, flew to the side of the road, where it overturned.
“As a result of the accident, a 36-year-old resident of the village of Razdolnoye, who was driving a Slavuta car, died. His wife, a Peugeot driver and a Mazda driver are in the hospital with various injuries,” the message says.
A law enforcement source told RIA Novosti that the dead was a local priest from the Razdolnensky district. The issue of initiating a criminal case is being resolved.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the republic noted that the police officer was driving a private car outside of office hours.
“If the employee's guilt is confirmed, he will be dismissed from the internal affairs bodies and brought to the responsibility established by law,” the department noted.
