First exercises after escalation in Karabakh start in Azerbaijan

The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the tripartite agreement reached on the night of November 10 turned out to be successful. With the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to completely cease fire and exchange prisoners and bodies of the dead. The Azerbaijani army will begin operational-tactical exercises on Monday, up to 10,000 servicemen, about 100 tanks and other armored vehicles, up to 200 rocket and artillery installations of various calibers, up to 30 units of military aviation, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles for various purposes will be involved.

“According to the plan approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, operational-tactical exercises will be held in the Azerbaijani army from March 15 with the involvement of types of troops (forces),” the press service of the military department told RIA Novosti earlier.

Similar tactical exercises involving 7.5 thousand servicemen will be held in Armenia in all operational directions of the armed forces on March 16-20, the press service of the Ministry of Defense reported earlier.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the military exercises of Azerbaijan do not pose risks to stability and security in the region, they are of a planned nature.

“According to the information we have, these exercises are of a planned nature, aimed at improving the combat training of troops and do not create risks to stability and security in the region,” Zakharova said at a briefing.
