S.-PETERSBURG, 15 March – RIA Novosti. A criminal case was opened after the death of a man from ice falling on him from the roof of a house in Petrozavodsk, SUSK RF in Karelia reports.
The tragedy took place on March 14. The man was on the porch of an apartment building when ice fell on top of him. He died on the spot from his injuries. The investigating authorities have begun to check.
“The Investigation Department for the city of Petrozavodsk of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Karelia has initiated a criminal case on the death of a man from falling ice mass on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence),” the statement says.
Currently, forensic examinations are being carried out, all the circumstances of the incident are being established.
Earlier, the press secretary of the head of Karelia Marina Kabatyuk said that the head of the republic Artur Parfenchikov with investigators visited the site of the tragedy. According to Parfenchikov, the roof was cleaned two days before, but the cleaning was done poorly – a fairly heavy edge of ice remained on the edge of the roof. It was she who at the moment of the thaw came off and fell down.
