MOSCOW, March 14 – RIA Novosti. The United States, through various communication channels, has tried to start a dialogue with Pyongyang since mid-February, but have still not received a response, CNN reports, citing a source in the US presidential administration.
In early February, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Biden had asked his national security team to review policy towards the DPRK “across the board” in order to determine the most effective ways to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
A senior official in the US presidential administration, Joe Biden, told the TV channel that the US authorities have tried to reach North Korea “through several channels, starting in mid-February, including in New York,” through the Pyongyang mission to the UN. “To this day, we are not. received no response from Pyongyang, “the official said. According to him, there was no active dialogue between the United States and the DPRK for more than a year, “despite repeated attempts by the United States to start it.”
The source noted that the authorities are conducting an inter-agency policy review on North Korea, which “includes an assessment of all available options for responding to the growing threat that North Korea poses to its neighbors and the international community.” According to him, the authorities consulted with former officials, including some officials of the administration of ex-President Donald Trump, as well as with allies – Japan and South Korea.
The White House has not yet responded to RIA Novosti's request.
Blinken, in an interview with NBC News in February, noted that the new toolkit includes the possibility of further sanctions against Pyongyang in consultation with US allies, as well as diplomatic incentives that the secretary of state did not disclose.
