MOSCOW, 12 Mar – RIA Novosti. Investigators from the central office of the RF Investigative Committee will be investigating the criminal case brought against an inspector who detained poachers in a nature reserve in Buryatia, Svetlana Petrenko, an official representative of the department, told reporters.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Presidential Plenipotentiary in the Far East Yuri Trutnev instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and the leadership of Buryatia to take control of the situation with the initiation of a criminal case against the inspector of the Baikalsky Reserve who detained the poachers. In the release, the press service of the Deputy Prime Minister referred to media reports that inspector Sergei Krasikov detained five poachers red-handed, in whose car the carcasses of two illegally caught roe deer were found. During the arrest, the inspector was hit by a poacher's car – he had a broken arm and a concussion, but, according to media reports, he became a defendant in a criminal case for abuse of power. The chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin demanded to report to him on the investigative actions carried out in the case. “A criminal case against the local state inspector in connection with the situation that occurred in the Altacheysky state natural reserve in the Republic of Buryatia was transferred to the central office on behalf of the chairman,” said Petrenko …
According to her, in October 2020, the inspector went to the place of illegal hunting and detained the violators who tried to hide and ran into him. At the same time, regional investigators, along with a criminal case against the violators, opened a case against the inspector himself. “The applicant believes that his criminal prosecution is based on biased testimonies of the persons he detained in the reserve,” Petrenko added.
Earlier it was reported about the completion of the investigation against the defendants in the case of illegal hunting in the Altacheysky reserve; during the investigation, the participants in the criminal process filed counter statements about the commission of crimes during detention in the forest.
According to the information on the website of the Baikal State Natural Biosphere Reserve, since March 3, 2011, the management of the Altacheisky reserve is carried out by the Baikal State Reserve.
