YEREVAN, 13 Mar – RIA Novosti. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian discussed the possibility of early parliamentary elections with the leader of the ruling faction of the National Assembly “My Step” Lilit Makunts, reported the press service of the Armenian leader.

It is noted that the meeting took place within the framework of political consultations initiated by the President.

“The current situation in the country, ways of overcoming the internal political crisis were discussed. In this context, the importance of dialogue between political forces and reaching agreement on the holding of early parliamentary elections was noted,” the statement on the president's website says.

On Saturday, Sargsyan also plans to hold consultations with the leader of the “Bright Armenia” opposition faction Edmond Marukyan. Prior to that, he discussed the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Another political crisis erupted in Yerevan after Pashinyan's careless words about the Russian Iskander missile systems. According to media reports, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Armenia Tiran Khachatryan ridiculed the Prime Minister, for which he was dismissed, followed by the proposal to resign, Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan. The Armed Forces of Armenia issued a statement in which they demanded the resignation of Pashinyan himself. The prime minister regarded this as an attempted coup and called on his supporters to take to the streets. Speaking about the threats of civil clashes, Pashinyan admitted that there is such a danger. “But we must agree that we will not have this. We have no enemies inside Armenia,” he stressed.

Pashinyan threatened his opponents with arrests: “Those who robbed the people have no opportunity to return to power … If someone crosses the boundaries of political statements, they will be arrested. The end of the velvet,” said the prime minister, who came to power after the “velvet revolution.”
