YouTube has restricted access to the film “Crimea. The Way to the Homeland”

MOSCOW, 12 Mar – RIA Novosti. YouTube has restricted access to the film “Crimea. The Way Home” on the channel “Russia 24”. According to its author, first deputy general director of VGTRK Andrei Kondrashov, this is due to the upcoming anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia.

When you try to open a video, a message appears stating that it contains content that, in the opinion of members of the YouTube community, “may intimidate or shock some users.”

Kondrashov, in an interview with RIA Novosti, noted that he was not warned about the blocking.

“It is not in the rules of IT giants – to warn someone or subsequently explain why they are blocking some resource or some account. In particular, YouTube has blocked 200 Russian accounts over the past year without any explanation. Therefore, I am not at all surprised that no one warned me, did not inform me, and do not hope for any explanations at all, “he said.

In his opinion, there is only one explanation.

“And I hope it is correct. This is due to the fact that we will soon celebrate the seventh anniversary of the reunification of Russia with Crimea, and on or around this date, as a rule, there is a surge in views of this film. In particular, probably because a number of educational institutions, schools use it on class hours to tell students what happened <...> And, probably, someone does not like this truth, who still calls the reunification of Crimea with Russia annexation, “the agency's source said …

The documentary “Crimea. The Way to the Homeland” was shown for the first time in March 2015. It includes, in particular, two interviews with Vladimir Putin, who spoke in detail about the “Crimean spring.”

Crimea became a Russian region in March 2014 following a referendum held after a coup in Ukraine. 96.77 percent of the voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6 percent of the residents of Sevastopol supported reunification with Russia. Ukraine considers the peninsula to be its own, but temporarily occupied territory. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the residents of Crimea have made a decision in a democratic way, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter. According to Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue has been finally closed.
