MOSCOW, 12 Mar – RIA Novosti. Alexei Navalny, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for embezzling Yves Rocher funds, was taken from a pre-trial detention center in the Vladimir region, where it is not yet clear, his lawyer Vadim Kobzev told RIA Novosti on Friday.
“We were told that he was taken out of the pre-trial detention center. We were not told where exactly,” the lawyer said. According to him, he “does not even have any assumptions” about the purpose of the transfer.
Meanwhile, the day before, the same Kobzev, in an interview with RIA Novosti, expressed the opinion that Navalny would stay in the Kolchugino pre-trial detention center pending consideration of the appeal against the verdict in the case of libel against the veteran, the date of which has not yet been set.
According to him, Navalny plans to participate in the consideration of the appeal, but the court will decide in person or by video link from the pre-trial detention center.
According to the established practice, before being transferred to a colony, convicts are placed in a pre-trial detention center in quarantine. By the verdict of the court, Navalny will end up in a general regime colony, there are two of them in the Vladimir region: No. 2 in the city of Pokrov and No. 5 in Vladimir.
On February 2, the Simonovsky Court of Moscow ruled to cancel Navalny's suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case and replace him with 3.5 years in a general regime colony. The FSIN insisted on this – according to the department, he repeatedly violated the conditions of the probationary period and was put on the wanted list before his arrest. Subsequently, the Moscow City Court approved this decision.
In addition, Navalny must pay 850 thousand rubles for defamation of the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Ignat Artemenko. The defense appealed the verdict, the appeal will have to be considered by the Babushkinsky Court of Moscow.
