Sakhalin Region bought 51% of Aurora shares from Aeroflot for one ruble

MOSCOW, 11 Mar – RIA Novosti. The Sakhalin Region bought 51% of the shares of the Aurora airline from Aeroflot for one ruble, Russian Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev said at a meeting between the president and government members.

“At the moment, the Far Eastern regional company” Aurora “has been created. I want to say that the issue was worked out, and the Sakhalin region acquired 51 percent of shares of the airline” Aurora “from PJSC” Aeroflot “for one ruble, as it was decided”, – Saveliev's words are quoted on the Kremlin website.

He added that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry for the Development of the East, together with the subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District, have identified a route network – “these are 535 socially significant routes, including 100 interregional routes and 435 local routes.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin previously instructed to create a single Far Eastern air carrier. The purpose of this work is to increase the transport accessibility of remote areas of the entire Far Eastern Federal District. As part of this task, a promising route network has already been worked out, including 535 socially significant routes that will connect 410 settlements in the Far Eastern Federal District.

Such a solution, as conceived by the authorities, will reduce the cost of air transportation, build an optimal turnover of aircraft, increase regularity, and provide a convenient flight schedule for passengers with the maximum possible number of connections and minimum waiting times.
