NATO prepared the Ukrainian military for urban battles

MOSCOW, 11 Mar – RIA Novosti. Since 2015, NATO has prepared about 16 thousand Ukrainian military personnel to conduct hostilities in cities, according to Ukrinform, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Oleksandr Sirskiy, said during a press conference.

According to him, more than 19 thousand Ukrainian military personnel were trained with the help of officers of international training missions in the period from 2015 to 2020.

“The direction of our cooperation is the further development of the system of training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, primarily the ground forces,” the general added.

Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Ruslan Khomchak, announced the preparation of the Ukrainian military for offensive operations in urban conditions. The general did not specify which cities were going to storm the Ukrainian military. According to him, this is necessary in order to be ready “for all options for the development of the situation.”

The conflict in Donbass has been going on for seven years, about 13 thousand people have become victims. The settlement is being discussed at the meetings of the contact group in Minsk. The parties have adopted several documents aimed at resolving the conflict, but shootings continue.

Since February, the situation began to deteriorate: there was an attempt on the life of the battalion commander of the People's Militia of the DPR, Ukrainian security forces fired mortars at Gorlovka and the outskirts of Donetsk, and the fighting intensified. The self-proclaimed republics believe that a large-scale offensive is being prepared in Kiev, pulling new forces to the line of contact. In recent days, videos from different Ukrainian regions have been published on social networks, showing trains with military equipment.
