German politician urged the European Union to purchase Sputnik V vaccine

MOSCOW, 11 Mar – RIA Novosti. The head of the German state of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelov, called on the German government to make the EU understand that it is necessary to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine from the manufacturers, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group. “In my opinion, Sputnik V is a great chance as soon as possible. I urge the German government to let the EU understand that now it is necessary to purchase the appropriate amount of vaccine from the Sputnik V manufacturers, “the Ostthüringer Zeitung newspaper quotes.

Ramelov said he has no specific preference for vaccines. “When it's my turn, I will be vaccinated with whatever vaccine is available,” he said.

“I am not at all afraid of the side effects: I regularly get vaccinated against the flu. The reaction of the body suggests that the vaccine is working,” the head of Thuringia added.

The Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus has been undergoing a gradual review procedure since March 4 at the European Medicines Agency EMA, which approves vaccines for use on the European market. Earlier in the EMA expressed hope that the assessment of “Sputnik V” will be held in an accelerated period, but the date of approval of the vaccine is not yet. The Russian vaccine has been approved in more than 40 countries.

Currently, three vaccines are authorized on the EU market: Pfizer / BioNTech (purchase up to 600 million doses), Moderna (two contracts up to 460 million doses) and AstraZeneca (up to 400 million doses).
