MOSCOW, March 9 – RIA Novosti. Ukraine's representative in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) Sergei Garmash accused Russia of preparing a “provocation” in Donbass to bring peacekeepers into the region. He wrote about this on Facebook.
The diplomat said that France and Germany are preparing some “proposals for clusters”, according to which it will be possible to create a roadmap for ending the war in Donbass. But Moscow is promoting the idea of bringing peacekeepers into the conflict zone.
“The purpose of the provocation and the introduction of” peacekeepers “is to create a new reality in Donbass, which will make the German-French” proposals on clusters “unprofitable for Russia no longer relevant and will allow the conflict to be mothballed along the Abkhaz model,” Garmash said.
According to him, the introduction of peacekeepers will turn Donbass into a Russian military base.
At the same time, Garmash said that preparations for defense are underway in the DPR and LPR if Ukraine goes into a “counteroffensive.”
Aggravation of the conflict in Donbass
Earlier, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin announced the preparation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the resumption of hostilities in the Donbass. He announced the presence of foreign military instructors and advisers on the line of contact and the training of sabotage groups. In addition, he noted the renewed shelling from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In Lugansk, it was also indicated that Polish and Lithuanian troops had arrived in the conflict zone.
Renat Kuzmin, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Opposition Platform – For Life party, also announced about Ukraine's preparation for the war in Crimea and Donbass. He drew attention to the fact that bellicose calls are constantly being heard in the country, the General Staff is preparing troops for street battles, and representatives of Kiev are refusing to comply with the Minsk agreements.
In recent days, videos from different Ukrainian regions have been published on social networks, showing trains with military equipment.
In the Donbass, the situation has recently become aggravated. The battalion commander of the People's Militia of the DPR was assassinated on February 15, and on the morning of February 19, the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired at Gorlovka from mortars. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak said on February 22 that the country's army was preparing for assault operations in urban settings.
Boris Gryzlov, Russia's plenipotentiary in the contact group on Donbass, noted that the Ukrainian authorities are on a course to escalate the conflict. He called the situation on the line of contact extremely difficult.
