Almost a thousand law enforcement officers and more than 500 officials were convicted in 2020 on corruption articles, Viktor Baldin, head of the department for overseeing the implementation of anti-corruption legislation of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“The convictions were held against 949 law enforcement officials, 539 officials of state and local authorities, 58 regional and municipal deputies who committed corruption-related crimes,” Baldin said.
According to him, Russian courts last year passed more than 8,000 convictions against 9,000 people who were charged with corruption offenses. About 18% of convicts received actual imprisonment, 35% received suspended sentences, and 40% were fined.
