Death toll from bombings in Equatorial Guinea reaches 98

MOSCOW, 8 March – RIA Novosti. The death toll in a series of explosions at a military base in Equatorial Guinea has risen to 98, at least 615 people were injured, the local portal AhoraEg reports, citing a statement by the country's Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mange.

Earlier it was reported about 30 victims, the number of victims was more than 500.

A series of powerful explosions in the city of Bata, one of the largest in the country, occurred on Sunday. As a result, almost all residential buildings were damaged or destroyed.

President Teodoro Obian Nguema Mbasogo said the bombings at a military base in Bata were caused by the “negligence” of the military and the carelessness of the farmers who started a fire near the army depots.

According to TVGE, special forces and a paramilitary gendarmerie are stationed in the military camp where the first explosion took place.
