Argentina extradited a Colombian accused of stealing jewelry to Russia

MOSCOW, March 9 – RIA Novosti. Argentina made a decision to extradite to Russia a citizen of Colombia accused of stealing jewelry worth 160 million rubles, Andrei Ivanov, an official representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, told reporters. – said Ivanov.

According to the department, in Russia he is accused of theft on an especially large scale.

According to the investigation, in July 2018, in the Kazan exhibition pavilion, an attacker and accomplices stole a travel suitcase with jewelry worth 160 million rubles from an employee of the Seven Diamonds jewelry company. After that, he disappeared from the scene of the crime.

The court in Kazan arrested the criminal in absentia, and he was put on the wanted list.

In September 2019, the accused was detained in Argentina. The extradition process was multi-stage, during 2019-2020, materials and evidence were additionally submitted by the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation. In September 2020, it was possible to achieve a positive decision on his extradition. Accompanied by officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the Russian Bureau of Interpol, Edgar Alejandro Valero Valero will be delivered to Moscow.
