BELGRADE, 6 March – RIA Novosti. The West will increase pressure on Belgrade, waiting for the recognition of Kosovo's independence, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said after a meeting of the National Security Council.
The event lasted for several hours, one of the main topics was the situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
“Serbia is expected throughout the West to accept the independence of Kosovo, and this is the essence of the whole process. Everything that they want from us fits into one sentence … Nothing has changed much, except that this desire will be expressed more significantly and dramatically than it was before, “- said Vucic at a press conference.
At the end of February, the Serbian Foreign Ministry categorically condemned the report of the European Parliament, approved by the Foreign Policy Committee. According to Belgrade, the document “in an unacceptable and inappropriate way calls on the EU member states to unilaterally recognize the independence of Kosovo.”
In 1999, armed confrontation between Albanian separatists from the Kosovo Liberation Army and the Serbian army and police led to the bombing of Yugoslavia (which at that time consisted of Serbia and Montenegro) by NATO forces. On February 17, 2008, the Kosovo-Albanian structures in Pristina unilaterally declared independence from Serbia.
The republic is not recognized by Russia, China, Iran, Spain, Greece and a number of other states. Belgrade in 2011 began negotiations to normalize relations with the Kosovar Albanians, mediated by the EU.
