Russia and Belarus will hold two joint tactical exercises of the Airborne Forces of the Russian Federation and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus in March, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Sunday. “During March of this year, at the Polivno training ground in the Ulyanovsk region and the Osipovichsky training ground in the Minsk region of the Republic Belarus will host joint Russian-Belarusian tactical exercises of the Airborne Forces of Russia and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, ”the ministry said.
At the Russian polyvno training ground, the maneuvers will be held on March 9-20 and will be devoted to peacekeeping topics. The exercise will be led by the commander of the Ulyanovsk Separate Guards Airborne Assault Formation of the Airborne Forces, Colonel Vladimir Seliverstov.
The arrival of a unit of the Special Operations Forces of Belarus for these exercises is expected on March 9. During the week, the combat coordination of the consolidated unit of the two countries will take place, the active phase of the maneuvers will take place from March 16 to March 19. “In total, more than 400 servicemen and about 100 units of military and special equipment of the Ulyanovsk formation will be involved in the exercise, more than 80 servicemen of a separate guards airborne assault unit of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, stationed in the city of Brest, “the Defense Ministry said.
In addition, two Mi-24 attack helicopters and six Mi-8AMTSh transport-combat helicopters of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation will be involved in the maneuvers.
“In parallel, from 15 to 27 March, a joint Belarusian-Russian tactical exercise will be held at the Osipovichsky training ground in the Minsk region of the Republic of Belarus,” the ministry said.
During maneuvers in Belarus, units of Russian and Belarusian paratroopers will work out joint actions of a reinforced paratrooper battalion in defense and offensive, day and night. About 90 servicemen of the Black Sea Guards Airborne Assault Regiment of the Pskov Guards Airborne Force, from Belarus, more than 400 personnel and about 100 units of military and special equipment from the Vitebsk Separate Guards Airborne Force will take part in these exercises from the Russian Federation.
