MOSCOW, 6 Mar – RIA Novosti. An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck off the coast of New Zealand, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake was recorded at 00.16 UTC (03.16 Moscow time). The epicenter of the tremors was located 181 kilometers from the city of Gisborne. The outbreak was located at a depth of 9 kilometers.
Earlier this week, a series of four powerful earthquakes was registered in the region, the magnitude of the last of which was 8.1. This was followed by more than 20 aftershocks with a magnitude of more than 5.0 in the morning in the Pacific Ocean near the Kermadec archipelago of New Zealand. Thousands of people were evacuated due to the threat of a tsunami on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. After a few hours, the people were allowed to return home.
