KIEV, 6 Mar – RIA Novosti. The Ukrainian energy system will separate from the Russian and Belarusian ones in 2022, Acting President said. Minister of Energy Yuriy Vitrenko during an online meeting with Minister of Energy of Lithuania Dainius Kreivis.
Vitrenko previously noted that he advocates reasonable restrictions on the import of electricity from Russia and Belarus. He also called for disconnecting from the energy system connected with the two neighboring countries, since, according to the minister, Kiev needs to be united with the European energy system.
“The synchronization process is entering the homestretch – in 2022 the UES (Unified Energy System. – Ed.) Of Ukraine will separate from the power systems of Russia and Belarus and go into an isolated mode of operation. After that, in 2023, full synchronization with ENTSO-E will take place. (the European network of system operators for the transmission of electricity. – Ed.) “, – quoted by Vitrenko, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
It is noted that joining ENTSO-E will also provide demonopolization of the electricity market in Ukraine and help to introduce effective transparent European rules and procedures.
Vitrenko outlined a number of tasks to speed up synchronization, including the modernization of the energy infrastructure – generating equipment and networks. The minister claims that Kiev is aware of the problem with the supply of electricity from Europe to Ukraine at peak loads, therefore, it is considering the possibility of expanding, building new generating capacities that can meet the country's needs.
