MOSCOW, 6 Mar – RIA Novosti. At least 16 people were killed and nine more were wounded by gunmen in northwestern Nigeria, Agence France Presse reported, citing an official and a local resident.
As reported, the attack was carried out on the village of Tara, located in the state of Sokoto. “This afternoon we buried 16 corpses. Nine more people were seriously injured,” the agency quoted a local resident as saying. More than 100 cows were also taken away by the attackers, a local official said. He said the attackers came from the neighboring state of Zamfara.
Earlier it was reported that at least 60 people were kidnapped in a bandit attack on a village in Zamfara state in northwestern Nigeria. A week ago, gunmen attacked a school in the same state and kidnapped female students. Local PM News noted that the attack on a girls' boarding school in Jangebe city took place at night. The state governor announced on March 2 that about 300 schoolgirls had been released.
