MOSCOW, 5 March – RIA Novosti. Gastroenterologist Nikita Kharlov told Zvezda why it is often dangerous to eat persimmon.
He explained that excessive consumption of this fruit can lead to the formation of phytobezoars – formations that cause acute intestinal obstruction.
The physician noted that phytobezoars are formed when a large amount of plant products are consumed. “This is due to the effect of indigestible fiber, which is not absorbed by the body, but passes through the intestines,” the expert emphasized.
Kharlov explained that with reduced motility, which is most often experienced by the elderly or patients with irritable bowel syndrome, any plant food becomes a source of bezoars.
However, the physician concluded that such formations are quite rare.
