MOSCOW, 5 March – RIA Novosti. In the Pacific Ocean off New Zealand's Kermadec Islands were more than 20 aftershocks with magnitude greater than 5.0, from the data the US Geological Survey.
Earlier, a series of four powerful earthquakes was registered in the region, the magnitude of the latter being 8.1.
Thousands of people were evacuated due to the threat of a tsunami on the east coast of the New Zealand island of North. After a few hours, the people were allowed to return home.
According to the seismologists of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, in the region of the Kingdom of Tonga, the first tsunami with waves of 0.03 meters high was recorded after the disaster.
