Lor told how to properly treat a cold

MOSCOW, 5 March – RIA Novosti. Is it necessary to treat a runny nose and how to do it correctly, said in an interview with radio Sputnik ENT doctor of the highest category, candidate of medical sciences Vladimir Zaitsev.

According to him, there is a certain sequence of actions in self-treatment of a common cold or acute rhinitis. If possible, it is better to try not to use addictive vasoconstrictor drops, advised Zaitsev. If the nose is very stuffy, you can take drops for children, they will give a similar effect, but the concentration of the drug will be half as much.

Better yet, according to the doctor, is to use a corticosteroid medication.

“These are hormonal drugs, many are afraid of them, they think that they are addictive, or that they can make you fat. In fact, this is not so. These drugs do not work instantly, the contraction of the mucous membrane occurs in hours, the swelling goes away and the outflow of mucus begins From the nasal cavity. One pressing in each half of the nose is enough. There is no addiction to these drugs and there is no need to use them all the time, “Zaitsev explained.

He clarified that if the mucus in the nose is very viscous, mucolytics will help – thinning sprays and drops. Then you can proceed to the next step – rinsing the nasal cavity with saline. It is important to spray a water-based antiseptic into your nose afterwards. “And the very last step – you can use oily nasal drops: peach oil, apricot oil, this will soften the mucous membrane. Inside you can take a drug that will have a decongestant effect,” the doctor recommended.

Zaitsev told when you can treat a runny nose on your own, and when you can't do without an otolaryngologist. He explained that if within a few days the condition changes dynamically – first it grows and then goes away, then the doctor is not needed. But another option is also possible.

“If you feel that a week has passed, and the nose does not go away, nasal discharge grows, thickens, turns green, starts to press at the level of the cheeks, you need to go to the doctor. Acute rhinitis can turn into acute sinusitis, inflammation of the maxillary sinuses”, – warned Zaitsev.

This condition can stagnate for a long time in the human body and requires treatment, the doctor added.
