Japan reports first case of anaphylaxis after Pfizer vaccination

TOKYO, 5 Mar – RIA Novosti. Japan has recorded the first case of anaphylaxis after being vaccinated with Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, the country's Ministry of Health said.

They clarified that experts cannot yet establish whether the use of the drug was the cause of what happened.

According to the department, the case occurred with a woman aged 30 to 40 years. Within five minutes after injecting the drug, she developed a cough, eyelid swelling and itching all over her body. After taking the medication, her condition improved.

The ministry stressed the need for a detailed study of this case. They did not rule out that this could be the result of an allergic reaction, since the woman suffers from asthma.

In February, the first round of vaccinations started in Japan. Currently, the only vaccine approved in Japan is Pfizer, which was approved on February 14. As of March 5, about 37 thousand people received the first dose of the vaccine.

The first stage covers 40 thousand medical workers. It takes place in 100 medical institutions across the country. The next round of vaccinations will reach 4.7 million health workers. Then, starting in April, 36 million older people over 65 will be vaccinated. It is expected that the mass vaccination will take place with the active participation of local administrations.
