VORONEZH, 5 March – RIA Novosti. The court sentenced a resident of the Tver region to 10 years in a colony, who strangled a one-year-old girl she took under her guardianship, the regional court reports.
According to the Investigative Committee, on the evening of April 26 last year in the village of Krivtsovo, Kalininsky District, Tver Region, a 41-year-old woman “on the basis of sudden personal hostile relations” covered her nose and mouth with her hand and held it there until the little girl suffocated. In addition to the girl, the woman had a boy born in 2011 at home, over whom she also had custody. A case was initiated against the woman for the murder of a minor and for torture.
“By the verdict of the Tver Regional Court, Olga Sharova was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph” in “Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a general regime penal colony,” the message says.
As the court notes, the woman was acquitted on charges of committing a crime under the article “Torture of a minor committed against knowingly for the guilty who is in a helpless state”, the woman was acquitted due to the lack of corpus delicti.
The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed.
