MOSCOW, 4 Mar – RIA Novosti. Russian helicopter carriers of Project 23900, which will be analogues of the French Mistrals, will be able to carry up to 16 helicopters and four drones on board, a source in the shipbuilding industry told RIA Novosti.
“Helicopters developed by the Kamov Design Bureau are being considered for deployment. We are talking about the Ka-52K and other models, including the Ka-27. The capacity is in the region of 15-16 vehicles. In addition, in addition to the helicopters themselves, four drones are planned to be deployed on board the Project 23900 ships. “, – said the interlocutor of the agency.
The requirements for the appearance of the ship, spelled out in the contract, were formed for a long time by the state customer in the person of the Ministry of Defense, and the final project “in terms of its functionality has become no worse, and maybe even better than the Mistrals,” the source said.
Two Project 23900 universal amphibious assault ships were laid down on July 20, 2020 at the Zaliv plant in Kerch in the presence of President Vladimir Putin.
Dock ships (analogs of the French Mistral helicopter carriers) will be the first ships of this class built in Russia. Their displacement will be 40 thousand tons.
In addition to helicopter carriers, other landing ships are being built in Russia today, including the BDK project 11711, which have more modest characteristics.
As the general director of the Yantar shipyard Ilya Samarin told RIA Novosti, the improved project 11711 BDKs laid down at the enterprise in 2019 will be able to carry at least two helicopters on the deck, they will be able to accommodate a troop of 300 marines, the displacement will be seven thousand tons.
The contract for the supply of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers worth 1.2 billion euros was originally signed between the French DCNS / STX and Rosoboronexport in 2011. The first ship, named Vladivostok, was to be handed over to France in November 2014, but due to the events in Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions against Russia, then-President François Hollande decided to suspend the contract. The Mistral is planned to be built approximately by 2025, an informed source said. These plans were assessed on the air of Sputnik radio by military observer Mikhail Khodarenok.
