US urged Russia to “destroy its chemical weapons program”

WASHINGTON, 2 Mar – RIA Novosti. The US calls on the Russian Federation to “declare and destroy its chemical weapons program,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price.

Earlier, the US and the EU accused the Russian authorities of “poisoning” Alexei Navalny. The Kremlin has previously denied accusations of the presence of banned toxic substances. According to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is complying with all obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

“Any use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere, ever and under any circumstances is unacceptable, this is contrary to international law … The United States calls on Russia to comply with its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and to declare and destroy its chemical weapons program under the international verification regime “, – said Price at the briefing.

He also welcomed the EU sanctions against Russia on Navalny.

The Russian authorities stated earlier that the last kilogram of military chemical agents from the stocks available in the Russian Federation was destroyed on September 27, 2017. Thus, the federal target program, which has been implemented since 1996, was completed ahead of schedule, and Russia fully fulfilled its obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, having eliminated about 40 thousand tons of toxic substances.
