MOSCOW, March 3 – RIA Novosti. After the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Ukraine may lose $ 3 billion, but this damage is “not critical”, ex-Minister of Economy of the country, President of the Center for Market Reforms Volodymyr Lanovoy said in an interview with NSN.
“All the same, this money is drowning in Naftogaz’s’ bogeyman. ”There you will not understand anything – where are their incomes, where are their expenses. At the same time, the people will become poorer, as the authorities increase tariffs for heat, electricity, gas and other energy resources. And this is completely unjustified, “said Lanovoy.
Earlier, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergey Marchenko considered that the launch of the pipeline could cause damage to the Ukrainian economy in the amount of about $ 1.5 billion a year due to the loss of resources and jobs.
Nord Stream 2
Nord Stream 2 envisages the construction of two pipelines from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The capacity will be 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Its implementation is opposed by the United States, which is promoting its liquefied natural gas to Europe, as well as Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, who call the project a political one.
In December 2019, Washington imposed sanctions on the gas pipeline, as a result of which the Swiss Allseas stopped laying. Work continued a year later: in December 2020, the ship “Fortuna” stretched 2.6 kilometers of pipes in German waters. As a result, according to the project operator Nord Stream 2 AG, about 148 kilometers of the pipeline remained unfinished out of the total length of its two lines of 2,460 kilometers: 120 in Danish waters and 28 in Germany.
Russia has repeatedly stressed that Nord Stream 2 pursues purely economic goals.
