MOSCOW, March 3 – RIA Novosti. The Meshchansky Court of Moscow on Wednesday extended the term of detention in the pre-trial detention center for YouTube blogger Andrei Pyzh, accused of illegal access to state secrets, the court told RIA Novosti.
“The Meshchansky District Court granted the investigator's petition to extend the previously chosen preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of Pyzh until June 5,” the agency's interlocutor said.
The blogger who has Russian and Ukrainian passports is accused of illegally obtaining and distributing information constituting a state secret. The detailed plot, as in almost all such cases, is not disclosed due to secrecy.
After being detained in August 2020, the blogger first pleaded guilty, but then abandoned both this position and the lawyer Alexei Khalzov. In court, he stated that Khalzov had tricked him into signing the paper, taking advantage of his confusion and fear.
Now the young man is being defended by another lawyer. The prisoner faces up to eight years in prison.
Wad, whose YouTube channel has more than 800 thousand subscribers, filmed videos at nuclear power plants and other closed or abandoned facilities.
