MOSCOW, March 2 – RIA Novosti. It is necessary to guarantee the confident development of the coal regions of the Russian Federation, even taking into account the possible decrease in demand in the world, said Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on the development of the coal industry.
He noted that there are different forecasts regarding the long-term prospects of the global coal market beyond the current decade. Some of them imply a significant contraction of the market, including due to technological changes in the global fuel and energy complex, the active use of alternative fuels.
“In any case, we need to carefully study all possible scenarios in order to guarantee the confident development of our coal-mining regions even with a decrease in global demand for coal, with a deterioration in the global situation,” Putin said.
The President noted that it is important to use the export revenues of the coal industry to strengthen and diversify the economies of coal mining regions.
“And, of course, this resource should really work to improve the well-being of people, to create a modern, comfortable environment for life,” added the head of state. The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
