Putin urged to build long-term plans for the development of the coal industry

MOSCOW, March 2 – RIA Novosti. In the development of the coal industry, it is necessary to build plans for both 3-4 years and for a longer period, taking into account the needs of other countries, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin is holding a videoconference meeting on the development of the coal industry on Tuesday.

“Today I propose to discuss the situation in the domestic coal industry – one of the key, pivotal sectors of our fuel and energy complex, significant for the socio-economic development of entire regions of our country,” Putin said opening the meeting.

The President said that since 2017, coal production in Russia has consistently exceeded 400 million tons per year, of which more than half is supplied abroad, the volume of export supplies has grown by more than a third over the past eight years.

“For further sustainable development of the industry, it is necessary to constantly analyze the market situation, make plans both for the next 3-4 years and for a longer horizon, based on the strategic challenges and long-term prospects of the global coal market,” Putin added.
