CAIRO, 2 Mar – RIA Novosti. In Tunisia, cases of infection with the British strain of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 have been reported, the country's health ministry said on Tuesday.
“A mutated strain of the new coronavirus known as London SARS-CoV-2 has been discovered in Tunisia,” the ministry said in a statement.
At the same time, Tunisian doctors have not yet registered cases of infection with South African or Brazilian strains in the country, the Ministry of Health said.

The Tunisian Health Ministry's Vaccination Committee said earlier that the country plans to receive the first batch of Pfizer and AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines in March. A batch of Pfizer vaccines is expected in the amount of 93 600 doses and about 150-200 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine within the framework of the COVAX initiative, at the same time another 100 thousand doses of Pfizer are to be received in Tunisia, which will be purchased from the manufacturer. Tunisia is also negotiating with Russia on the supply of the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus, Russian Ambassador to Tunisia Sergei Nikolaev said earlier in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the vaccination committee, Tunisia will subsequently receive 2 million doses of vaccines through direct purchases from manufacturers. Another 4.3 million doses are expected to be received through the COVAX mechanism and 2.4 million doses through the African Union initiative to ensure vaccination of the continent's population. In total, the country plans to provide 8.8 million doses of vaccines to vaccinate about 5 million people during 2021.
