MOSCOW, March 1 – RIA Novosti. Wintershall Dea believes that there will be no problem in financing the construction of Nord Stream 2, said Thilo Wieland, Wintershall Dea board member who is responsible for the company's activities in Russia, Latin America, and gas transmission projects.
As Wieland noted, the previously commissioned Nord Stream 1 is currently loaded to its maximum capacity. According to him, it is a very modern and environmentally friendly system, which has also helped to ensure reliable gas supplies to Europe.
“All parties participating in this project (Nord Stream 1 – ed.) Have also observed this, saw how reliable these supplies are. And therefore, I don’t think that there could be any problems from the financial side (for Nord Stream – 2 “- ed.). But again, the financial side is provided by the companies participating in the project, they have demonstrated that they can deal with existing problems.”, – said during a discussion organized by the international discussion club “Valdai”.
Nord Stream 2 envisages the construction of two strings of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. It is being implemented by Nord Stream 2 AG with the sole shareholder – Gazprom. European partners – Royal Dutch Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper and Wintershall – pledged to finance the project in total by 50%, that is, up to 950 million euros each.
Wintershall Dea said Tuesday that it has completed its investment in Nord Stream 2, spending a total of 730 million euros in financing. In 2020, OMV and Shell announced the full completion of their obligations to finance Nord Stream 2, while the Austrian OMV indicated that it had invested 730 million euros in the project as part of the loan. All foreign partners in the Nord Stream 2 project directed funding for its construction simultaneously, at the request of Nord Stream 2 AG
