MOSCOW, March 1 – RIA Novosti. The Russian national payment system Mir will begin to reject money transfers to foreign electronic wallets, which will complicate the use of resources such as online casinos, RBC reports, citing a technology bulletin sent to banks.
The decision, effective April 27, aims to “minimize the risk of questionable remittances.”
Foreign e-wallets, RBC notes, are usually used by online casinos, bookmakers and other gray market players.
At the same time, the range of organizations that are required to accept Mir cards for payment is gradually expanding: from March 1 to June 30, 2021, this perimeter will include stores with a revenue of over 30 million rubles per year.
The “Mir” payment system is a national Russian payment system. Calculations are made in rubles. Credit cards and debit cards are issued with overdraft support. The operator of the Mir payment system is the National System of Payment Cards JSC.
The operation of the Mir payment system does not depend on the operation of foreign payment systems.
