Khalilzad met with the head of the Afghanistan Reconciliation Council

MOSCOW, March 1 – RIA Novosti. The chairman of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, wrote on his Twitter account that the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Kabul and held a meeting with him.

Earlier it was reported that Khalilzad went on a trip to Kabul and Doha, during which he will resume negotiations with the Afghan authorities and representatives of the Taliban.

In January, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the new US administration would retain Zalmai Khalilzad as the special envoy for Afghanistan.

In 2020, in Qatar, the United States and the Afghan radical Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the beginning of an inter-Afghan dialogue following a prisoner exchange deal.
