RT: the EP proposed new sanctions against Russia for “espionage” in Bulgaria

MOSCOW, February 28 – RIA Novosti. Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki raised the issue of the possibility of expanding sanctions against Russia because of “Moscow's espionage activities” in the republic, writes RT, citing an appeal to the European Commission.

In September last year, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry declared two employees of the Russian trade mission persona non grata and expelled them from the country on suspicion of “espionage.” As reported by the Russian embassy in Sofia, the Bulgarian side did not provide any evidence that could confirm such accusations.

The parliamentarian asked if the European Commission is aware of the expulsion from the country of Russian diplomats accused of “espionage.” – clarified Dzhambazki.

The MEP also recalled the expulsion from Bulgaria in December of the military, air and naval attaché at the Russian embassy in Sofia, accused of “collecting military information.”
