In Catalonia, seven people were detained at rallies in support of the rapper

MOSCOW, February 27 – RIA Novosti. Catalan law enforcement officers Mossos d'Esquadra detained seven people, including one minor, in the city of Terrace in the Vallés-Occidental district of the province of Barcelona on Friday during a protest against the arrest of rapper Pablo Asel (Hasel), according to the newspaper Periodico

According to the newspaper, several hundred young people took part in the demonstration. Catalan police began to take action after protesters threw stones, fireworks, eggs, cans and other objects at law enforcement officials. Several other people set fire to containers in the city center.

Protests in Spain began on February 16 after the arrest of rapper Pablo Asel (Hasel), who was sentenced to nine months in prison for insulting the monarchy and praising banned terrorist organizations on social media and one song. In many cities, the actions escalate into riots and clashes with the police, the most violent in Barcelona. More than a hundred people were detained (most have already been released), more than a hundred were injured, including dozens of representatives of the law enforcement agencies. One girl lost her eye due to a Styrofoam bullet fired by the police. Young people of ultra-left views and anarchists take part in the actions. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that it is necessary to strengthen the protection of freedom of speech in the country, however, according to him, the use of violence is unacceptable under any circumstances.

The Spanish government has announced plans to revise the punishment for free speech crimes so that it applies only to those who exhibit violent behavior or whose actions pose a threat to public order.
