MOSCOW, February 26 – RIA Novosti. Some people notice a change in the color of their eyes over time, others would like to correct the shade of the iris themselves. Is it possible to become blue-eyed or black-eyed at will and what are the risks of such operations, said in an interview with Sputnik radio an ophthalmologist of the highest category, associate professor of the Department of Eye Diseases of the National Medical and Surgical Center. N.I. Pirogova Irina Leshchenko. “With age, the eyes become more faded, especially people who have initially light eyes suffer. There is such a phrase – faded eyes. The color of the iris depends on the amount of pigment: if there is a lot of pigment in the iris, then the eyes are dark, and if there is not enough – lighter. The amount of pigment may decrease with age, discoloration occurs, “she explained.
There is no evidence that the so-called discoloration of the eyes is associated with diseases, Leshchenko noted and clarified that this does not apply to cases when there is retinal fibrosis or foreign bodies enter the eye.
The operation can change the color of the eyes. Two methods are widely known: laser color correction to lighten the pigment and the injection of a dye into the sclera – the dense opaque shell of the eyeball. But the ophthalmologist considers such methods to be dangerous.
“The operation to change the color of the iris is not an operation, but sabotage. If the injected substance is toxic, atrophy of the optic nerve and anything else can occur. This is a crippling operation, and, frankly, there is little use from it. If you want to change your eye color, wear contact lenses of any color: purple, pink, red, speckled. It is much safer than eye color change operations, “she is sure.
Eye color does not affect the need for protection from bright sunlight, Leshchenko noted. Sunglasses are important to everyone, she says, whether your iris is dark or light.
“Everyone has their own photosensitivity. If it is increased, then it is advisable to use protective equipment from light as much as possible, maybe not only outside, but also indoors, if the color is very bright,” the ophthalmologist emphasized. The spread of coronavirus
