The lawyer of ex-schema monk Sergius commented on the search in the monastery in the Urals

EKATERINBURG, February 26 – RIA Novosti. The law enforcement officers who came to search the Sredneuralsky nunnery were supposed to present a corresponding authorization from the court, but this was not done, said the lawyer of the former schema-abbot Sergius (Nikolai Romanov) Pavel Babikov.

Earlier, Sergiy's lawyers reported that riot police officers arrived at the Sredneuralsky women's monastery, formerly controlled by a priest who was arrested on charges of suicide. According to their information, the operation is being carried out to find Romanov's cell attendant – Siluan's father.

“In accordance with the requirements of the Constitution of Russia and the criminal procedure law, a search in a home is possible only on the basis of a court decision. At the same time, monastic cells are also living quarters, since they are intended and used for citizens to live (paragraph 10 of Article 5 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation),” – wrote Babikov on the Telegram channel of the defenders of Sergius.

According to him, the defense has repeatedly spoken about the fact of people living in the monastery and provided evidence, and the law enforcement agencies could not have been unaware of this fact.

“Therefore, to conduct a search in the cells, which was that night in the monastery, a court decision was needed to conduct a search – and such a decision was not presented to anyone. Such behavior of law enforcement agencies should be assessed from the point of view of observing the constitutional rights of citizens living in the monastery,” – emphasized the lawyer. RIA Novosti does not yet have official comments from the Russian Guard, the FSB and the SK.

The spiritual father and founder of the Sredneuralsky nunnery, Sergiy, became the focus of attention after he began to speak in sermons that COVID-19 is a “pseudo-pandemic” that Russians want to be placed in the “electronic camp of Satan”, “they are illegally imprisoned in self-isolation,” freedom and work “. Later, a church court defrocked him, but he continued to conduct divine services and conduct an active public activity. In September last year, Romanov was excommunicated from the Church. He is now under arrest in Moscow on charges of inducement to suicide, violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion and arbitrariness.
