MOSCOW, February 24 – RIA Novosti. US Republican Senator Mitt Romney believes that if former US President Donald Trump decides to run again in 2024, then the party will support his candidacy.
“Will the president continue to play a role in my party? I'm sure he will … I don't know if he will be nominated in 2024, but if he does, then I'm pretty sure he will win the nomination,” Romney said. in an interview with the New York Times.
The senator himself, in turn, said that he would not vote for Trump, just like he did not vote last time.
Romney was the most oppositional Republican against the former president. Earlier, the senator called the situation that occurred on January 6 in the Capitol in Washington “an uprising, which was incited by the president,” and Donald Trump himself “a man with wounded pride.”
On January 6, supporters of Donald Trump, then the current president of the United States, stormed the Capitol after a rally in Washington, the work of Congress was interrupted for several hours. As a result of the riots, a demonstrator and a policeman were killed, and three more died from causes unrelated to violence. The House of Representatives impeached Trump on charges of inciting mutiny, but the Senate acquitted Trump.
