Novosibirsk authorities will help a family whose children died in a fire

NOVOSIBIRSK, 24 Feb – RIA Novosti. The governor of the Novosibirsk region, Andrei Travnikov, instructed the Novosibirsk authorities to provide the necessary assistance to a large family, in whose house there was a fire and two children died.

According to the head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a message about a fire in a private residential building on Olkhovskaya Street in the Kirovsky district of Novosibirsk was received at about 12.00 (8.00 Moscow time) on 23 February. Within eight minutes, the first fire brigades were at the call site. At this time, two private houses and outbuildings between them were burning with open fire. The owners of the house, as well as their 16-year-old son, were able to evacuate. The parents told the rescuers that there were three more children in the house. The bodies of two of them were later found by rescuers. The third child, as it turned out, was not in the house. He was not hurt.

“I ask the Novosibirsk Mayor's Office to make all decisions to provide support to the family affected by the fire,” Travnikov said at an operational meeting at the regional government. In turn, the mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, said that the family was registered as having many children. They moved to the house in which the fire occurred this year, and earlier they lived in a hostel. The city government works with the family.

Earlier, the EMERCOM headquarters noted that the firefighters' work was complicated by the rapid spread of fire due to dense buildings, wooden structures, the absence of fire gaps between buildings, the presence of gas supply, which the gas service specialists had to cut off.

Investigators of the UK are investigating a criminal case of causing death by negligence. The prosecutor's office of the Novosibirsk region is checking compliance with fire safety and prevention rules. It is already known that the house was not equipped with an autonomous smoke detector.
