In Belarus, prices for socially important goods were limited

MINSK, February 24 – RIA Novosti. The government of Belarus has limited prices for socially important essential goods, follows from the resolution of the Council of Ministers, which was published on Wednesday on the national legal Internet portal of the republic.

“The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus decides: legal entities of all forms of ownership and individual entrepreneurs engaged in the production (import) and (or) sale to the domestic market of socially important essential goods according to the lists according to Appendices 1 and 2, not to allow price increases from the date of entry into the force of this decree until February 28, 2021 compared to the prices in effect on February 24, 2021, “the decree of February 23 says.

It is noted that from March 1, the change in prices for socially important essential goods in the country cannot exceed 0.2% per month to the price of these goods on the last day of the previous month, or to the price of goods of the same variety and packaging, if on the last day of the previous month, no socially significant product was sold. The resolution comes into force after its official publication.

The attachment to the document contains a list of socially significant goods. It includes, in particular, rice, flour, cereals, pasta, bread, chickens, boiled sausage, live and frozen fish, milk, kefir, sour cream, cottage cheese, cheese, eggs, animal and vegetable oil, some types of vegetables, apples, soap, toilet paper, diapers, matches – only 62 items of goods. In addition, the list of socially important goods includes fifty drugs.

According to official statistics, inflation in Belarus at the end of 2020 amounted to 7.4%. The expected inflation rate for this year is set at no more than 5%. In January, it was 1.1%, as reported by the country's statistics committee.
